Initially, to fill the content completely, I produced it with 40~50 seconds. However, the watch time (retention rate) hit rock bottom.
Change: Dramatic diet to the 15~28 second range
Result:Watch time exceeded 100%[span style="color: rgb(0, 0, As it started doing this, the algorithm began to explosively increase exposure, saying, "You're watching this video to the end?"
Just as important as shortening the video length is editing tempo
Cut editing: Use screen switching or zoom in/out every 1~2 seconds. (Divide cuts as often as possible)
Speed: Cut out all unnecessary words or silences without allowing even 0.1 seconds.
Effects: The video must end before the viewer feels 'bored'. That way, it leads to rewatching.
We sometimes try to do art. However, the Shorts algorithm is cold-hearted. Shorts selects videos that are objectively 'watched to the end' rather than videos that are subjectively 'good.' Videos with high completion rates ultimately win, even if the content seems a bit lacking.
