What is in your hands? On the 'power to decide' in life

As we go through life, there are times when thoughts like this suddenly cross our minds. "Why doesn't my life go the way I want?", "Is fate really predetermined?"

I would like to share a short story about 'true wisdom' that we have forgotten, but which can completely change our lives.

1. The Dangerous Prank of the Sage and the Boy in Venice

Once upon a time, on a high mountaintop in Venice, lived a sage who had grasped all the principles of the world.

The villagers revered him, calling him the 'Living Dictionary,' but a curious boy wanted to test his wisdom.

The boy went to the sage with a small bird hidden behind his hands and asked.

"Grandfather, is this bird in my hands alive or dead?"

The boy's mind was in turmoil.

If the sage said "It is alive," he intended to tighten his grip to kill the bird; if he said "It is dead," he intended to open his hands and let the bird fly away.

He believed that he could play a trick on the sage no matter which answer he gave.

2. A Sage's Word: "The answer is in your hands."

After gazing into the boy's eyes for a moment, the old man answered in a gentle yet firm voice.

"My child, the life and death of that bird depend entirely on you."

At this short answer, the boy gained great realization and bowed his head.

The sage did not simply guess the bird's fate; he saw through the 'weight of the choice' the boy held.

3. 'Fate' and 'Effort' Viewed Through the Lens of Korean Sentiment

We often use the words 'fate' or 'destiny.' If you dismiss things that don't go well as simply "bad luck," you may feel at ease, but the opportunity for change disappears. The bird in the story above is just like our 'future'. Success and Failure: It is not determined by external circumstances, but by my choices. Happiness and Unhappiness: It depends on the mindset with which you open or close your hand. The teachings of the sage remind us of the importance of self-leadership.

Before blaming others or the environment, you must reflect on how you are handling the opportunities currently in your hands.

4. Becoming the 'Master of My Life' Starting Today

Acknowledging Responsibility for Choices: Accept that your current situation is the result of choices you have made in the past.

Reclaiming Small Controls: Decide for yourself everything, starting with the small things, such as when you wake up this morning, what you have for lunch, and a kind word to others.

Opening Your Hand in a Positive Direction: Only you can decide whether or not to let the bird fly.

Are you clenching your hands tightly out of fear?

Are you ready to let your bird fly?

To live as the protagonist, not the audience, on the stage of life, you need the courage to believe that 'everything depends on my hands.'

What dreams and hopes lie on your palms?

So that the bird can soar powerfully, please open your hands wide now.
