Did you work hard to create and upload a YouTube video, but the watch time is abysmal?
You need to reflect on whether your script was a stiff, lecture-style tone like, "This is like this, and that is like that. So, do it this way."Unfortunately, viewers do not want to 'study' on YouTube.
They want to ride the 'waves of emotion.' Today, I will introduce the
[But-So] method, the core of script structuring that blocks viewers from leaving and keeps them watching until the end.
[But-So]
Many beginner YouTubers make a mistake. "If I give them good information, they will watch until the end, right?" No.
Videos that merely list information are 'swung off' in less than a minute.
The power that grabs the viewer by the throat and drags them to the end is not information, but the infinite repetition of [conflict] and [resolution].
Why are Netflix dramas so hard to stop watching? Because a conflict erupts every moment, and just when it seems to be resolved, another incident occurs.
Try adding the spice of **'But'** and **'So'** between a simple list of facts. The tone of the script changes completely.
"I met a puppy while walking down the street. It was cute, so I tried to pet it.
But the puppy barked hard at me, so I just came home." (Result: Oh, I see... The end. Not curious at all)
"I was taking a pleasant walk. But Suddenly, a huge dog blocked the way.
So I tried to cautiously go around. But This time, the dog started whimpering sadly.
So I slowly approached and..." (Result: Huh? Why is it whimpering? What happened afterwards? Viewer's brain starts working!)
This principle creates a **'dopamine loop'** that has been scientifically proven.
The moment 'but' appears: Conflict (noise) arises in the viewer's brain, thinking, "Huh? This is different from what I expected? What's going on?"
At this moment, the brain becomes tense and raises concentration to its peak.
The moment 'so' appears: The tense conflict is resolved, and a sense of pleasure is felt.
As this rhythm of tension and relaxation repeats, viewers cannot take their eyes off the screen until the video ends.
Take out the YouTube script you are currently writing and answer the following questions.
How many times does 'but' appear in my script?
Did I throw an unexpected 'barrier (conflict)' at the viewers?
Are you simply listing information?
"Without conflict, there is no immersion.
If you want to captivate your viewers, don't give them information; instead, throw a 'problem' and show the 'process of solving it.'
If you use 'but' and 'so' well, your channel's growth has practically already begun.
Don't explain, create a story.
Butthis creates tension, and sothis makes the views!
